Services

We offer group respite outings to various community activities and locations. Activities are mostly movement based and include climbing, swimming, indoor playgrounds, weightlifting (13+), Dungeons and Dragons (DnD), and more.

These groups are designed for children ages 7-17 with neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Outings run during evenings, weekends, early dismissal times and PD days. Full day summer programming is also offered.

Wednesdays: pickups offered from Third Academy school.

Schedule

Sunday - Swimming - 12:00pm-5:00pm (onsite: 1:00-4:00pm)
Monday - Climbing - 4:30-8:30pm (onsite: 5:30-7:30pm)*
Tuesday - Weightlifting (12+) - 4:30-9:00pm (onsite: 5:30-8:00pm)*

Full day outings (which run during PD Days, school breaks, and summer) run approximately 8:30am-5:00pm, with onsite time as 10:00am-3:30pm.

All listed times are approximations and include driving time. Exact pickup and drop-off times vary for each client depending on location. The onsite time is the amount of time spent at the location doing the activity.

Activities with an asterisk * require an ongoing commitment.

Note: Our Dungeons & Dragons programs are currently on hiatus while Tall Josh (our resident “Dungeon Master”) is away. The program will restart when he returns in March 2026.

Cost

Respite hours and rates are applied for all outings. Parents are charged for the time their child spends in our care, plus 30 minutes to cover the time spent traveling to and from your home. Parents are responsible for all activity costs.

Transportation

Transportation is included for all outings whenever possible. Scheduled activity times include driving time and reflect approximate pick-up and drop-off times.

Our current transportation area covers Calgary north of Glenmore Trail. On select outings, we also offer transportation for Airdrie, and Calgary south of Glenmore Trail.

For those living outside our coverage area for a given outing, drop-off or meeting arrangements can be made at a mutually convenient location.

Payment

We do not provide direct billing to FSCD. We provide each family with an invoice at the end of the month, and we allow one month for the invoice to be paid. The invoice to families includes both the hours of respite provided and the cost of any activities.

Staffing

Adult to child ratios are 1:6. All of our staff have years of experience working with neurodiverse children and youth.

Booking

A minimum of 2 business days of notice is required for booking an activity to allow time for us to create the transportation routes. If the activity is already full, your child will be placed on a waitlist for that day.

Cancellation

A minimum of 2 business days of notice is required for cancellations. Cancellations within 2 business days will be considered a last-minute cancellation. Full details of our cancellation policy can be found in our Parent Handbook, which you can receive by contacting us via email.

Supporting Complex Needs

Our team has years of experience working with children and youth with complex needs, and we can accommodate a wide range of needs. However, some children may require one-to-one support for participation in group settings, and we are unable to provide this level of support. Prior to having your child join for an outing, an intake phone conversation is required to determine whether we can adequately support your child’s needs in a group community outing. These decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.
